This fine stone building dating from 1885 was the National School in the area and cost 860 pounds to build and a further 91 pounds and 4 shillings to enclose. A grant of two-thirds was paid by The Board of Education with the remaining monies being raised locally. The National School closed in 1949 and the premises was purchased by the Sisters of Mercy who operated a girls secondary school here for the next 13 years.
