The Lawrence Collection

In 1865, William Mervin Lawrence opened a photographic studio opposite the GPO on Sackville Street, Dublin. Over the years he photographed the length and breadth of Ireland. The collection of 40,000 mainly glass plate negatives dates mostly from 1880-1914. A very large proportion of the collection is credited to Robert French, the chief photographer of the Lawrence Studio.

Athboy 100 is pleased to present this collection of high definition prints from the  original Lawrence Collection. These photographs date from approximately 1901.

Some of these images come from The Lawrence New Series. These were images which were originally rejected by Lawrence because he deemed them imperfect. With the passing of time these rejected images have become just as important from a historical point of view.
