Robert Carey was the former Postmaster in Athboy. He married Frances Lewis from Ballivor in 1893. They had no children but Frances’ niece, Edith Lewis lived with them. Edith married Mervyn Coffey (from Clonmellon) in 1920. Mervyn succeeded Robert Carey as Postmaster in Athboy. Courtesy of Peter Coffey

The Athboy group won the all-Ireland light entertainment competition in 1973 and as a result were invited to represent Ireland at the European Arts Festival in Germany, The group spent seven days in Germany in Sept 73 where they competed against seventeen other European countries.
