St James’ Hall

Originally this building was the Town’s cinema. It was built in 1927 by local builder/businessman Edward Morton and was later acquired by Jimmy Garry who continued to run the cinema here and its sister picture house – The Royal Cinema- in Trim. The Athboy Cinema would in its lifetime have seen the full transformation from the silent movies to the early talkies to the full technicolour movies with glorious stereo sound. In the 1960s, the growing popularity of television in every home spelled the death-knell of local cinemas everywhere.

St. James Hall is now a much prized and used local community hall.
