The Hill of Ward Cemetery is located about 1 mile from Athboy, in the townland of Wardstown and close to the famous Hill of Tlachtga. The cemetery is situated about 200 yards off the road. It is a very old cemetery and is located around the ruins of an ancient church called variously Remembrance Church, Teampall Cuimhne or Kil Cuimhne. All that remains of this ruin now is part of a gable end wall. The oldest inscription I found dates from 1723, although it is highly likely that it was a burial ground long before that.
This cemetery is now sadly overgrown and neglected although some people do still maintain their family burial plots there. It is many years since the last interment.
Headstone inscriptions were recorded in Hill of Ward Cemetery in the 1980s by Noel E French and published by him. The inscription which I publish here uses his work as a reference and is updated as necessary from my own survey. This is a complete list of headstone inscriptions in this cemetery as of summer 2016.

Thank you very much for all your work on the inscriptions in Hill of Ward.
One headstone was of particular interest to me – the Daly Family.
I did’nt find Marcella Daly, the lady, I was looking for in your list.
Anyway I visited the cemetery, recently, (a little adventure in itself)
and was delighted to find Marcella on the left side of the headstone
with more family, also on the right side of the headstone.
If you want these names, you can reach me at the email supplied.
If you email me direct with the extra names I will add them to the list
